For the past 30 years, Courtney has been an integral part of Haffner’s, shaping its operations, culture, and growth. Her journey, which began as a part-time cashier in high school, has evolved into a leadership role where she now serves as the Senior Manager of Heating Operations.

From High School Cashier to Senior Manager

Growing up in Derry, Courtney started working at Haffner’s while still in high school, covering weekend shifts and early mornings at the company’s first convenience store. Haffner’s quickly became more than just a job—it became a second home. Her early responsibilities included running the register, stocking shelves, making coffee, and even recording mechanical readings on the pumps.

Through college, she worked at Haffner’s, initially taking on a part-time office role. However, as opportunities arose, she embraced new challenges, transitioning from accounts receivable and collections to customer service and management. Her adaptability and willingness to learn allowed her to take on bigger roles, helping shape the company through acquisitions, transitions, and major projects.

A Career Built on Growth and Impact

Throughout her time at Haffner’s, Courtney has been at the center of some of the company’s most significant projects. She played a key role in the transition when Haffner’s was acquired by Energy North, helping integrate systems, maintain customer relations, and guide employees through the change. She also led the office remodel, ensuring it reflected the company’s evolving needs while maintaining its strong local ties.

Beyond operations, Courtney has been deeply involved in community outreach, serving on nonprofit boards and championing partnerships with organizations like Lazarus House. Her leadership has extended to employee programs, training, and even HR functions during times when resources were limited.

One of her favorite things to do for the company is organizing the annual Driver Rodeo, an event that brings together employees for friendly competition, skill-building, and camaraderie. She loves the tradition and the sense of teamwork it fosters among the staff.

What Keeps Courtney at Haffner’s?

When asked what she enjoys most about working at Haffner’s, Courtney points to the people and the company’s core values. “My teams are like family,” she says. “We provide things that people genuinely need—fuel, heat, and more—and being part of that is rewarding.”

She also thrives on the ever-changing nature of her role. “No two days are ever the same. There’s always a new challenge, a new project, or a new opportunity to learn. That keeps it exciting.”

A Word That Defines Courtney

When asked to describe herself in one word, Courtney chose Transformative. She explains:

“My career has been a journey of growth, adaptation, and impact. Haffner’s has given me opportunities to evolve, take on new challenges, and build lasting relationships. The support from leadership and the connections with colleagues and customers have made this journey truly transformative.”

Advice for New Employees

For those just starting at Haffner’s, Courtney offers this wisdom: “Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them. No job is too small—we all play a role in making this company run. If you’re open to opportunities, Haffner’s is a place where you can grow.”

Looking to the Future

As Haffner’s continues to expand, Courtney is excited to see the company strengthen its brand and broaden its reach. “I want everyone to know Haffner’s for all that we do—not just for gas and car washes, but for heating, service, and community engagement. We’re on the right path, and I love seeing it all come together.”

After 30 years, Courtney remains as passionate as ever about Haffner’s. Whether leading major projects or mentoring new employees, she embodies the dedication and heart that make Haffner’s feel like home for so many. And while she may joke that they’ll have to “pry her from her desk” when she retires, one thing is clear: her impact on Haffner’s will be felt for decades to come.
